Recently, Dr. Shelley Francis, of EVNoire, took the stage in Detroit, Michigan, to participate in an important conversation on “Growing a Diverse EV Workforce” at the annual Roadmap Conference This engaging panel brought together thought leaders from across the sector, spotlighting innovative ways to unlock quality jobs and develop workforce opportunities, with a special focus on historically underserved communities.

Unlocking Workforce Development for Under Represented Communities

During the panel, Dr. Francis emphasized the importance of including diverse voices in the EV workforce. "To truly build an equitable workforce in the EV industry, we must focus on removing barriers and creating pathways for historically underrepresented communities," Dr. Francis stated. Her message reinforced EVNoire’s commitment to equity and inclusion as the EV industry continues to expand and adapt.

Dr. Francis was joined by other experts in workforce development, climate, and energy, including:

  • Stephanie Gagnon Rodriguez from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), who highlighted the need for cross-sector collaboration to drive sustainable workforce solutions.

  • Cornell Johnson of the Center for Energy Workforce Development, who discussed programs that make training and advancement in the energy sector more accessible.

  • Devashree Saha from the World Resources Institute, who spoke on global trends in workforce development and their impact on the American workforce.

  • Jennifer Mefford from the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program, who shared insights on the specialized training needed to support the rapid expansion of EV infrastructure.

 

Together, the panelists outlined how, with the right investments in training and resources, the EV industry can provide access to high-quality, well-paying jobs in communities that have traditionally been overlooked.
